The legendary RX7 (Part One)

When I was younger (when I was in junior high), I overheard a conversation of 2 men saying that they owned a 1.3 litre car and had been beating a lot of cars on the road at that time (well road racing is actually illegal in Malaysia but who cares!). I was wondering what in the world car could they have own to do so. After hearing this, I was puzzled at that time and yes I don’t know much about cars at that time (and as for now well lets say I am a little better nowJ). So I started to “Yahoo” (Google was not popular at that time) this phenomenon and the Mazda RX7 Efini 1.3 come up the screen.

Now how in the world can a 1.3 third generation RX7 pack such power on the engine? The technology that Mazda had was called the rotary engine, which basically means the so called pistons travels is a circular motions just like the roulette table. Conventional engines are usually in line where the piston travels up and down within the engine block going against the force of gravity. However the rotary does not have that problem with gravity. This Mazda twin turbo monster (250 -270 hp) had been around since 2002 (final production date for Japan) and in my opinion one of a very good car to own these days.

For starters this car is a very light on the road tax coz its 1.3 litres and if you are thinking that the rotary engine is expensive then better rethink on the budget point of view. The engine is somewhat reliable and if you really have problems don’t bother fixing it, just go to a store and purchase a new one. Like any sports cars that are around, this mechanical marvel is rear view drive FD, which sounds like a great car to “Drift”. This car was featured in many Japanese drifting shows and competitions. One of it is the famous Initial D Japanese anime (animation), which featured the Yellow RX7 and a white Savannah RX7 (Second Gen RX7 – FC). This anime is all about drifting and a pretty good show to watch due to its accurate technical Manu ability of the cars.

About the Author

When I was a little younger, I never had the interest in cars at all. Somehow it picked it up when I was in high school and oh yeah did I mention my dad and brother loves cars as well? I am more of a Japanese Car lover then any other car but don’t get me wrong I like the rest as well. Let’s just say that Jap cars are the first on my list. Drifting, racing circuits and rallying, these are the thing that I love to do but I can’t! Well let’s just say I don’t have the skills for these kind of things. So the only thing I do is occasionally drive fast on the road when I am provoked by a much slower car or in par. "All you need to see is my tail light" turboturtle
