Proton Waja 1.6 – My Ride – Part 4 – Fuel Consumption

Alright, this post will tell you a bit about the fuel consumption of my car.

Factory recommendation is roundabout 11 km / litre, but i think that is constant 90 km/h with no stopping, so i kept some records myself and below are the information.

I have tried some tanks of fuel with different driving styles, it was pretty difficult for me to drive the normal style, as i enjoy more spirited driving style hehe.

For normal driving style, the below is the statistics :

Driving Conditions : City driving, drive time mostly less than 15 minutes to destination, depending on traffic.

8.1 Km / Litre

Driving Conditions : City driving, drive time mostly less than 30 minutes to destination, depending on traffic.

9.2 km / Litre

For more spirited driving style, the below is the statistics :

Driving Conditions : City driving, drive time mostly less than 15 minutes to destination, depending on traffic. Constant pulling of all gears to 5000-6500 RPM

6.5 KM / Litre

Driving Conditions : City driving, drive time mostly less than 30 minutes to destination, depending on traffic. Constant pulling of all gears to 5000-6500 RPM

7.1 KM / Litre

The Waja Fuel tank can hold about ~60 litres of fuel and the Low fuel indicator comes up when i am left with maybe 7-8 litres of fuel…

The fuel indicator is not too accurate, maybe due to the design of the fuel tank..

The design of this Waja was a bit different from the previous batch, where it comes with a sunglasses holder like in the picture below :

  1. Is there somewhere on the net you can order one of those sunglasses holders, or should I go talk to my local Proton guys (Australia)? I could do with that in my car.

  2. I have a year 2004 waja. My meter reader is faulty and I need to know
how many km my car can i go if i pump full tank? Thank you.

  3. full tank of waja can ~60liter, rm110, can go around 800++
    km

  4. full tank i can go only 5++km

  5. Just brought a used WAJA [A] 2005 “120K Mileage”

After servicing with fully synthetic, without any modified
Full Tank RM105 R0N95 BHP i manage to run 555KM only. City drive.
I wish to hit 700KM. Highway drive. 800+ i would like to know
how can you guys do it? Any modification? Fuel saving products?

  6. my waja 1.6 auto year 2000 can travel about 635km with full tank rm 108 using RON95 PERTONAS.no modification

  7. all manual waja/impian can actually do 800/+ km. how u do it is fill up the car when its trully empty. fill it up until it reaches around 55litres. then force another 10 litres in. hahah. no joke. just keep pumping the fuel slowly. takes about 5-10minutes. 800km mileage is usually achievable when ur doing long distance and doing a steady speed of 100-120kmh. make sure the tires are in very good condition and fill up the air slightly higher than recomended. i set my tires to 275kpa where the car is recommended at 200kpa. im using michelin energy xm2 and they are a much better fuel saving tire compared to the michelin pilot sport 3 i used before. alternative tires is continental CC5. and use a slightly higher grade engine oil. im using syntium 3000. used to use syntium1000 but since my car exceeded the 200,000km mileage, i changed to better engine oil since the block is quite old and needs extra care. so basically for max efficiency u need: good tires, good engine oil, brim the fuel tank and drive relax. hope what i wrote up here helped.
